Week 2: I lost some ambition and turned to a "to do" that's been on my list for a long time: Organizing old photos stored in my basement. That's overwhelming as I didn't realize that we had so many photos! So I began and eventually I was able to pull together three albums from the "early" best years of my life – circa early '80s to '90s – when I travelled a lot, worked on contract jobs in Israel and California for some time, and met my husband. Along the way, I met many great folks and visited a lot of wonderful places. These photos brought back so many memories and they reminded me of the energy I once had and hopefully I still do.
Week 3: Back to resumes and job hunting. I shortened, chopped, cut-up and spruced-up my resume. Now working with an agency who will guide me in marketing my skills and experience!
Fast-forward to August: I spend my days in my home office on my laptop, looking for employment and training, thinking that if I spend 8+ hours on this, surely a job will miracuously pop-up (LOL)! I haven't been to the gym in 3 weeks, finding it hard to get moving at 5:00 or 5:30 a.m., which is my usual waking time. I'm wondering, along with a dozen other questions that run through my mind, if I will ever find that new adventure. It's unfortunate that our resumes are often the first and only view that a potential employer sees. I say: to know me is to like me. I have something to offer. So while I'm waiting I did what I love to do: I created a professional web page and this blog (thanks to Google, gotta love 'em!) in the hopes that I can show employers what I can do before they read the resume. Not to mention that building my 'professional' page and blog have given me purpose (smile).

"It's kind of sad that our resumes are often the only view a potential employer takes a look at."
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you Vicki, it is sad that a potential emaployer judges a candidate on the basis of a resume. I would go a step ahead and say that, it is even sadder that a potential employer judges a potential employee on the basis of just an interview. There have to be some better ways to judge people.
